Christmas Table Settings

So today I felt the notion to start Christmas decorating! Yes, I know it’s not even Thanksgiving but I couldn’t help myself! I usually wait until after, but for some reason this year I wanted to start early. I’ll just blame it on pregnancy and call it “Christmas Nesting.” While I’m not ready to share everything with you quite yet, I do want to show you our holiday table settings for our dinette. I love this dinnerware because it is so versatile! It is our everyday china but with a little holiday sparkle added! (;

Below I will share with you where everything is from and how I styled it. I’ll let you know just how easy it is to take ordinary settings from everyday dining to glittery, shiny, festive, holiday ready perfection!

Casablanca Square Placemats: Crate and Barrel
White Ruffle Centerpiece Bowl: Crate and Barrel
Very Merry Ball Ornaments: Crate and Barrel
Kincaid Flatware: Crate and Barrel
White Pearl Dinnerware: Crate and Barrel
Riedel Wine Glasses: William Sonoma
Waterford Napkins: Bed Bath and Beyond
Pearl Spiral Napkin Rings: Bed Bath and Beyond
Red Glitter Bows: Wal Mart

The key to this style is simplicity. I like to have simple neutral colors (in this case white) as my base and add pops of color and texture here and there. I could easily pull only two elements from this look and call it everyday dining. These two elements would be the decorative ornaments and the red glitter bows. The ornaments I picked up at Crate and Barrel last year around the holidays. While they did not really match my tree, I knew they had to go somewhere!  I feel like the various sizes and colors really pop in the white bowl and give this table an elegant yet fun holiday look! The napkin rings are actually from my spring settings but I used them here by adding miniature red glitter bows. Such an easy transition! They are literally 97 cents at Wal Mart for a package of 12! They come with a tiny wire on the back so they pretty much attach to anything you can think of! Around the holidays I use them all around the house. I add them to gifts, name tags, candles, and even as an embellishment on my dog’s collar! Other than those two additions, I just styled it as an everyday setting.

I have also started decorating the rest of the house this week so I will make sure and post pictures and details as soon as it is finished! I would love to hear your Christmas decor tips or ideas so please feel free to share them in the comments below!

10 Tips for Planning Your Own Wedding

This past year, most of my thoughts have revolved around one thing. Our wedding. If it wasn’t the wedding itself, it was some scenario or topic that reminded me of the approaching day. We got engaged in September and planned for an early June wedding…leaving plenty of time to plan! Until you experience it yourself, I don’t think people understand all of the little details that go into planning a wedding. After personally going through the whole process and reflecting on the experience, I have come up with 10 tips that one may find useful for planning a wedding of their own.

1.  Buy a planner, make lists, cross things off, repeat. It’s so important to stay organized and focused. Writing things down is vital to success.

2. Know when to ask for help, and learn to delegate tasks. You are one person, and as much as you may want to do everything yourself, you will drive yourself insane. Trust your family and friends. They are there to help!

3.  Understand that feelings will be hurt. At some point in the process there is a good chance you will hurt someone’s feelings, and your feelings will probably end up being hurt as well. This is part of it, things will work out in the end. Just remember the issues are only as big of a deal as you make them. Try to keep an open mind.

4. Realize that your fiancé probably doesn’t care about how the bridesmaids wear their hair. While guys like to be involved, maybe some of the decisions can be made without them. Make sure you communicate often with your fiancé so you are both on the same page, but try not to bore them with tedious details that they may not be interested in.

5. If it is an outside wedding, pray to God everyday for cooperative weather…hey we came very close to a tornado but we pulled through! Make sure you have a backup plan if disaster strikes. Crossing your fingers will only get you so far!

6. Be prepared that not everything will go exactly as planned, learn to be flexible and accommodating. Things are only as important as you make them. Compromise is key.

7. Prioritize. While it might be more fun to do certain tasks more than others, it is so important that you get the most important details lined out first. Securing your vendors should probably be higher on your the list than your DIY table numbers.

8. Be realistic. I know first hand how deceiving Pinterest, wedding magazines, or Martha Stewart can be. Try to stay on track and know what is feasible for your specific day. Not everyone can have a grand flower entrance like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (a girl can dream right?). Make a plan and a budget and try to stick to it as much as possible. What’s the point in a wedding if you don’t get to do a few (or 20) DIY projects during the process?

9. Learn to let go. So your little brother snuck off during family pictures to go drink in his car, or some over intoxicated guest stole a golf cart and drove it home, or maybe the cake didn’t look exactly like the picture you gave them,  whatever may come up, the day goes on! Little hiccups are bound to happen, don’t let them get to you. Learn to let go and enjoy your day. You will later look back on these incidents and laugh.

10. The day is about you. At the end of the day your married. Isn’t that the point?? You both woke up, you both walked down the aisle, and you both said “I do.” Hopefully when all of the planning is over and the big day comes, you can take in the moment to realize that the day is about you. Remember to relax! Trust yourself that everything you have worked for the past several months will fall into place.

Before I begin, I want to thank you for taking time out of your busy evening of internet surfing to check out my blog. There are so many other things you could be doing (like creeping on your sister’s roommate’s second cousin?) with your internet time. My goal for this first post is that you  get to know me a little better and hopefully feel intrigued enough to keep coming back. On this blog I plan to discuss a wide variety of topics such as: travel, fashion, beauty, home design, motherhood, cooking and so much more.

My name is Hannah Gibson and I am a twenty something living in southern Illinois. If someone asked me to explain myself in three words I would say that I am meticulous, confident, and creative.I recently got married on June 2nd, 2018 to my husband, Nick. We had our dream wedding followed by the most memorable honeymoon through Europe. So memorable that we are actually expecting a sweet baby boy in just a few short months. Before I became pregnant, Nick and I traveled frequently. I often have people ask me about our travel and dining experiences so hopefully through this blog I will be able to convey more about them. On a given weekend, we would make an effort to go to a new place, eat crazy food and drink amazing wine. While these experiences might not get to occur as often anymore, the excitement will not be stopping.

I am currently putting together our nursery and trying to get everything in our home ready for baby (I can’t wait to share more about this in a later post!). On this blog I will keep you up to date with pregnancy and eventually motherhood. As this is my first time, I would love to hear any advice or tips that you might have! Baby G is already loved so much and we can’t wait to share our journey with you.

As I am looking ahead at becoming a mother, I realize how important it will be for me to take time for myself. One way I plan to do this is through fashion and beauty. I have always loved shopping and I’m pretty confident that this obsession will not be stopping anytime soon. I am constantly looking for new additions to my wardrobe so feel free to share any of your favorite pieces! This goes for beauty as well…I love trying and learning about new products. In the near future I plan to share with you some of my favorite products, brands, and trends. I would love to hear some of yours!

Hopefully I haven’t bored you yet and by now you have a better understanding of my purpose. Even though there are only certain topics named in this post, I plan to write about so much more…such as the joys that I find in everyday life.

Now that you know a little bit about me and my blog, I would love to hear from you. If you have an idea for a topic or any questions, please don’t hesitate to comment or send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for reading!
